Simple Banana & Chocolate Chip Oat Bites

Recently I've decided I want to eat a little more healthily, so I've been googling to my hearts content lots of fun recipe ideas that can act as an alternative to sweet treats. I've seen lots of 'oat bites' recipes floating around the Internet, and after playing around I have created my own version. I found inspiration for this recipe from Hannah Maggs' recipe on her blog (hannahmaggs.co.uk) which you should definitely also take a look at, as hers looks equally as delicious. Instead of devouring a slice of banana cake (which I absolutely adore), I thought eating a couple of these oat bites filled with banana would make a slightly healthier alternative. I was a bit naughty and added a few chocolate chips, but a small amount will satisfy my sugar craving without having to eat a whole chocolate bar. And of course, adding these are totally optional. This recipe is quick, easy and very yummy so there really is no excuse to not give it a try!

// Ingredients //
(makes 12)
60g rolled oats
1 ripe banana
1 tsp honey
1 tsp cinnamon
A small handful of chocolate chips (optional)

// Method //
  1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees (fan oven) and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
  2. Peel the banana, place it into a bowl and mash it with a fork until it resembles a paste.
  3. Add the rolled oats to the mashed banana and mix together until combined.
  4. Spoon a teaspoon each of honey and cinnamon into the banana and oats and then mix, making sure both the honey and cinnamon is distributed evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Then, add a small handful of chocolate chips (if you wish) and mix well.
  6. Roll the mixture into small balls (about the size of a ping pong ball) and place around 2-3 cm apart on the baking tray.
  7. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes and allow them to cool slightly before removing them from the greaseproof paper.
  8. Enjoy!
I really hope you like the look of this recipe and make sure to check out Hannah's recipe too at http://www.hannahmaggs.co.uk/baking-healthy-banana-oat-bites/. Let me know if you make them too and feel free to tell me what you think in the comments below! Happy baking!
