The Night Out Makeup Edit

Every girl loves to get glammed up for a night out, right? It's the perfect excuse to really go all out with your makeup and create a more dramatic look. Since I've been going out a bit recently with my friends, I thought I'd share the products I use to make me feel dance-the-night-away ready.

For a night out I want my makeup to stay on as long as possible, so I prime my skin with the Benefit the POREfessional Primer, which creates an amazingly smooth texture on the skin in preparation for makeup application. I like to go for a full coverage base on a night out. To achieve this I use the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation, which I stipple on to create a fuller flawless coverage. To highlight under my eyes and to conceal other areas of my face, I use the Seventeen Stay Time Concealer. I find this concealer works so well at highlighting under the eyes and it's also an absolute dream to blend. To set all of this, I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder and this just helps to keep everything in place and combats excess oil later throughout the night.

I like to switch up my eyeshadow look every now and again, but one of my all time favourite looks is one I create using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. Little side note; I apply a tiny bit of concealer or primer as a base before I apply any eyeshadow to make sure my eyeshadow stays put. I use YDK all over the lid, Tease as a transition shade, then Busted in the crease and finally a bit of Blackout, which has to be the most pigmented black eyeshadow I have ever used, in the outer corners to really smoke up the look. I then usually highlight my inner corners and brow bone with the shade Bootycall. To switch things up a bit, sometimes I like to apply a bit of the NYX Hot Singles Eyeshadow in Flustered, which is a gorgeous cranberry shade.

For lashes, I use one of my all time favourite mascaras, which is the MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara. It makes my lashes look amazingly dramatic and it is seriously pigmented. And for brows, I go ahead and use the Seventeen Brow's That! Brow Kit, which is a perfect colour match for my brows and keeps my brows in position all night.

I absolutely love contouring, highlighting and just generally bronzing up my face for a night out; I think it really ties the whole glam look together. I contour and bronze up my face with the Benefit Hoola Bronzer, and then highlight my face with the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle. These two together look absolutely stunning and make my cheekbones seriously pop. I always apply a little extra for a night out because well, why not?

For lips, like with my eyeshadow, I enjoy switching it up as I can't get enough of lip products. But lately I have been sporting my favourite nude lip combo, as seen in this post, which consists of the MAC Viva Glam II Lipstick and the NYX Slide On Lip Pencil in Nude Suede Shoes. If I want to go for something a little darker, I also love using the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome, which is a lovely shade that isn't too overpowering but adds a gorgeous pop of colour to the lips. This lippie goes amazingly well with the Flustered eyeshadow - just a little tip.

The Eyeshadow Palette That Took A While To Grow On Me

My opinion on the Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Eyeshadow Palette was always so undecided, hence why this post has been sat in my drafts for a good few months now.  It's definitely safe to say that I didn't immediately love this palette; to me it was just kind of 'meh'.

But now, I really do love it! You would have probably guessed that already from the title of this post, haha. Of course it's not my favourite palette in the world, but for £4 you really can't go wrong. Plus, it's a pretty amazing dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, no? I personally don't own the Naked 3 palette, but to look at, the shades in both palettes are practically identical.

In terms of the formula and consistency, it differs from shadow to shadow. In general, they are all relatively smooth to touch, however I found when applying them that some of them are a lot dustier and powdery than others. This means that as you blend some of them out, they blend too much and leave minimal product left on the eye, which can be frustrating, so some of them require a bit more building up. This is mainly the case for the paler matte shades. Despite this, it is important to note that some of the other shades are a lot more pigmented and require less building up, the darker shades especially.

Once you've built enough product up, these shadows really do stay put well. I do try to wear some form of eye primer though, which I would recommend with these shadows, as they aren't high end and thus not as long wearing on their own. However, even with primer I wasn't expecting them to stay put for as long as they did. I looked in the mirror in the evening after applying the shadows in the late morning and I was seriously impressed! My crease was still relatively defined and there was still a good amount of one of the shimmery pink shades on my lid. For £4, I think that's pretty good going.

For everyday, I think this palette is great. There's a good range of shades and you can create some gorgeous pink toned eye looks with this. Despite the slight inconsistency in the pigmentation and formula of these shadows, I can't really expect any less for £4. And even so, some of the shades are gorgeous if you build them up and you can get a pretty (and totally affordable) everyday eyeshadow look, so I would definitely recommend this palette if you're looking for something with a smaller price tag.

Also, if you're like me and are unsure of this palette after a first few tries, keep trying! It took me a while to get the hang of using it, which I guess is down to the fact that I'm more used to using higher end eyeshadows, but once I had a proper play around I found that it was actually pretty good after all.

Have you tried the Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Eyeshadow Palette? Have you tried any products that you didn't like at first but you now love?

Topshop Shoe Haul

Seeing that Topshop now sell shoes in a size 2 (yes that's right, a size 2!) online and in store got me ridiculously excited. Unfortunately, not every brand in the world stocks size 2's and when they do, they are often still extremely hard to come by! I love Topshop shoes, so it always made me so sad when I couldn't buy any of them as they didn't have my size. Now they do, and as you can see, I decided to treat myself. You may notice there's a nice colour theme too... I just can't get enough of black shoes!

The first pair I bought are a cute pair of trainers, which I actually picked up in the sale for just £12, how good is that?! I haven't properly broken them in yet, so I can't tell quite how comfy they are just yet. I absolutely love the stitch pattern on the side of these, it just adds such a nice girly detail to them. I don't own many lace up shoes, only my Converse and Nike trainers, so I'm looking forward to getting more wear out of these.

I also bought some heeled sandals. I've been wanting some shoes like these for a while, as they aren't too high for dinner or a date, but they're not too low to go out clubbing in either. Not to say that going out clubbing in flats is a bad thing, but when I go I tend to wear a pair of shoes with a bit of a heel, it's just what I prefer to wear. I've actually worn these clubbing and they were super comfy to wear. I also love the chunky feel of these shoes and how flattering they look on, and not to mention how versatile they are. These shoes are great for dressing up a pair of jeans and will look gorgeous with so many skirts and dresses too, so I'm very happy with this little purchase.

My final shoe purchase was a pair of slip on trainers. I've had a pair similar to these from River Island for so long now and they were getting pretty worn, so I decided to invest in a new pair. It took me weeks and weeks to track down a new pair, as I couldn't find anywhere that stocked shoes like this in a size 2. But, I was out shopping with one of my friends, and we found the last pair of these in a size 2 for just £7 in the sale! I definitely felt like someone was watching over me, it was the best feeling ever. If you're a size 2 and can't get hold of shoes easily then you will understand, haha. I was desperate for a new pair as shoes like these go with so much. You could wear them with jeans and a simple t-shirt, or you could even mix it up and put them with a day dress and a bomber jacket to add a cool dressed up but dressed down kind of vibe.

Topshop, you've done well. And please, never stop stocking shoes in a size 2! Also, I've linked the shoes I bought below. I can't find the slip on trainers online anymore so I linked some similar pairs.

Have you bought any new shoes recently? Do you struggle with finding shoes in your size?

My Summer Holiday Essentials

As I have fairly recently just spent a week away in the sun, I thought I would fill you in on some of my summer holiday essentials that I took away with me. We all know we can't take away our whole wardrobes and our whole makeup collections (despite how much we all want to), so it's important to make sure you take things that you know you will definitely wear and use. If you're heading on holiday somewhere hot this summer, then maybe this will help you! Of course I won't list everything, as I could go on forever, so I'll just cover a few things I took on holiday that I couldn't have lived without.

Your Favourite Swimwear // Make sure you feel your absolute best on holiday by taking your favourite bikini or swim suit with you. One of my favourite bikinis has to be the one in my photo above from River Island. Isn't the print just gorgeous? For a week long holiday, I recommend taking three swimwear pieces with you. That way you can wear your favourite more than once and you'll also have enough of them to keep you going whilst washing and drying your pieces.

Sunglasses // Protect your eyes whilst looking good by the pool with some gorgeous sunnies. I love sunglasses and I'm often trying them on when I'm out shopping. They make such an amazing accessory and can often really pull an outfit together. Mine are from Topshop (in the photo).

Headphones // Headphones are an absolute lifesaver when travelling. They're great for when you're on the plane and especially by the pool. Nothing beats listening to some summer tunes whilst chilling in the hot sun by the pool.

Short Sleeved Tops, Not Just Camis // Cami tops are great on holiday for keeping you cool and for getting into the summer vibe, however when your shoulders are burnt to a crisp then short sleeved tops (and other clothing such as dresses for that matter) come in so handy. I burn so easily on my shoulders, even with sun cream, and I found that wearing short sleeved clothing instead of a cami when I was really burnt helped to protect my shoulders whilst walking around during the day.

3 Day Outfits & 6 Night Outfits // This only applies if you are going away for a week, and of course is a rough guide. For the day time, I took a black and a white cami as these can be mixed and matched with a pair of shorts, as well as a playsuit and a black short sleeved dress. I didn't wear my day time clothes all that much, as every day was spent by the pool, beach or waterpark, thus most of the day was spent in just my bikini. So, you really don't need too many outfits and you can easily wear all of them more than once without feeling bad about it.

Tinted Moisturiser // I rarely wear foundation on a summer holiday, I just find it way too heavy. That's why I love tinted moisturiser so much as it feels so light and fresh on the skin, plus it gives you the most beautiful glow. And, it keeps your skin looking and feeling soft and supple. I used the No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser every single evening on holiday and it worked great for me.

Hair Straighteners // On holiday I just never have the time to let my hair dry naturally, and I would if I could because hotel hair dryers are just absolutely crap. They are so unpowerful and let's not forget the frizzy curly mess my hair is left in after using them. My hair straighteners are always a life saver anyway, but even more so on holiday as leaving my hair in its natural state is out of the question. On evenings in Mallorca where I couldn't be bothered to straighten my hair, I put my hair in a fishtail plait. Wearing a fishtail plait was a great way of getting my hair out the way and keeping me cool whilst still looking nice.

A Trusty Nail Polish // A good nail polish is always an essential for a summer holiday, as you don't really want your nails chipping on the first day. I usually get shellac on my nails for a holiday, but I never got round to getting it done for Mallorca. So I decided to go for the next best option, which was using an Essie polish as they just last so well. Despite how good Essie polishes are, somehow the polish couldn't quite survive the heat, as the polish actually started to melt and go really tacky towards the end of my holiday, to the point where it went all rubbery and I could easily scrape it off. It was so strange! Nevertheless, Essie is still amazing and I blame it on the heat. On holiday I wore Go Ginza, a pale pink shade, however I think the shade Bikini So Teeny is totally holiday appropriate too, due to both the shade and the name.

Kimono // A kimono jacket was the perfect piece to take on holiday with me for when travelling to and from the airports. It's very thin so provided me with a bit of warmth whilst departing and arriving in the UK, but more importantly didn't leave me sweltering in thirty degree Mallorca heat in the airport (and on the sweaty coach transfer, gross). Plus, it can be folded up and put in my hand luggage very easily without taking up too much room.

Sun Cream, After Sun & Toiletries // This is all pretty basic, but still so very important. Sometimes it's so hard to tell you are burning as the breeze just causes you to not feel it, and it's so hard to see burn on yourself until you get up to the room at the end of the day. It's a nightmare! Always reapply sun cream after going in the water especially. After sun was great to calm down the burn and also to keep my skin moisturised. Also, toiletries such as razors are sooo important, and I'm sure you can understand that girls, haha!

Passport, Paperwork, Money, etc // Pretty self explanatory, right? You can't travel without it!

The Monthly Catch Up: June

June was a pretty good month for me. It was the first month of freedom after finishing my first year of uni, and I can't believe how quick it went! The first day of June started off with my one and only uni exam (I felt so lucky to only have one, some of my friends at different unis had four or five). It was a nerve-wracking start to June, but once the clock hit 4pm, I was free and began celebrating!

At the beginning of the month, I went to a music festival for my friend's birthday. A lot of the music was drum and bass, which I do like to listen to every now and again, and the atmosphere was really good. The highlights of the day were definitely Annie Mac and High Contrast; they were both amazing. The weather was gorgeous too which made the day even better.

As you may have seen on my blog, in June I went on holiday to Mallorca with my boyfriend Aaron. It was the most amazing week and it was so nice to get away and have a break on our own. I won't go into too much detail, as I've already written all about our holiday in my post here, so if you're interested in what we got up to then head on over to that post and have a little read. I have to say though, that frozen strawberry daiquiri I had at one of the bars in Mallorca was seriously amazing. I mentioned strawberry daiquiri's in my last monthly catch up post, hahaha, I've definitely got an obsession with them! I've also given you a little sneak peak of the gorgeous beaches if you haven't already seen my holiday post.

After getting back from my holiday, I spent a lot of time with Aaron and our friends. We've also been out clubbing a bit recently which has been so fun too, apart from the hangover I had after one night out. It was not fun at all! I also spent an evening with some of my oldest school friends, which was such a laugh (this actually happened on the first day of July, but as this post is a little late I thought I would write about it anyway). We got takeaway and laughed until our stomachs hurt, it was the best! I made these yummy rice krispie cakes to take with me on that night too, and my friends all loved them.

What have you been up to lately?
