Drum roll please… it’s the thing that we’ve all been waiting for. It’s the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks (what a mouthful). Now I don’t know about you, but I jumped at the chance to get on Boots’ waiting list for these, because as soon as I saw them I knew it was love. Sounds sad, doesn’t it, but you all know I’m a sucker for lipstick – plus an entire collection of twelve nude lipsticks to choose from?! What more could you want? I went for shades Ruffle Trim and Bedtime Flirt, which are both middle of the road nude shades. Not too light, not too dark. Just how I like it.
Ruffle Trim, photographed at the top, is described by NYX as a cinnamon pink, and is the darker shade of the two. It is of a warm tone and has brown undertones to it. I’d actually say it’s fairly similar to Velvet Teddy by MAC. Bedtime Flirt, photographed at the bottom, is described by NYX as a red toned pink. I personally wouldn’t say it is particularly red toned. For me, it’s a dusky pink shade that isn’t too warm toned and isn’t too cool toned, and I imagine that this shade would be extremely flattering on a lot of skin tones. Both of these shades are definitely ‘your lips but better’ shades.
These liquid lipsticks are definitely more of a moussey formula compared to a true liquid formula, which I actually quite like as I find they are less messy this way and apply slightly more easily. The doe foot applicator is also great to help them glide on smoothly and easily. In terms of pigmentation, these liquid lipsticks nail it right on the head. They are so pigmented in only one swipe, which is amazing, plus the shades that I have tried don’t appear streaky and are actually really opaque – sounds good right?
When it comes to longevity, these liquid lipsticks really do last. They have such amazing staying power. Once they’re on they won’t budge for a good few hours. After a few hours of course, especially after eating and drinking, they will start to fade, more so in the centre of the lips. But for the affordable price of £6.50, that’s pretty good going if you ask me.
Now it’s all been good so far, but there are a couple things that aren’t as great about these. I guess some products can’t be completely perfect, can they? Anyway, when you apply them, they feel moussey and smooth, however once they have dried, they do have the tendency to feel a little sticky every now and again. However for me, it is bearable, simply because all of the good things about these lipsticks override it. Also, these liquid lipsticks do become slightly drying after a while, although I think this is expected with a liquid lipstick. The idea of them is for them to be completely matte, and the matte feeling is something that I am used to, so this doesn’t really bother me too much.
So, there you have it. Despite the slight hiccups, I do like these liquid lipsticks. I am so happy with the shades I chose, they’re so gorgeous, and I can definitely see myself getting a lot of use out of them. Plus, they’re long lasting, and for the affordable price of only £6.50, I think NYX deserve a pat on the back.
Have you tried any of the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks? What do you think of them? Or are you planning on trying them out soon?
